Joe Davis

A native of Chattanooga, TN, Joe moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University and pursue a career in the music business. After earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Music Business, Joe landed a job at Nashville business management firm FBMM, where he was placed on the same service team as KBFM Founder Chris King

Over the next several years, Joe continued to hone his accounting experience by working exclusively with local businesses and startups, managing books, taxes, and operations for a variety of clients. Through these experiences, Joe developed a love for entrepreneurship and a deep respect for local business owners, and it became clearer than ever that accountants play an important role in helping those businesses thrive.

Returning to Belmont with renewed focus, Joe earned his Masters in Accountancy and immediately sat for the CPA exam. As a member of local Nashville public accounting firms, Joe worked almost exclusively with small business owners, helping them navigate the necessary evils of taxes and spreadsheets.

During his time in public accounting, Joe saw a need in the small business community for simplified CPA-level services. The traditional CPA firm model is built to cater to larger clientele with limited interaction, and ends up disenfranchising many local artists and business owners that need a personal touch the most. In November of 2020, Joe launched BootstrapTax, a fully-remote CPA firm dedicated to small business owners, freelancers, and startups. The firm was designed to provide down-to-earth, simplified CPA services, with the goal of giving financial peace of mind to business owners and allowing them to focus on the work that fulfills them.

In early 2023, BootstrapTax and KBFM saw an opportunity to work together, and decided to merge their operations in May of that year. In addition to supporting the firm’s business management clients with any and all tax matters, Joe also oversees accounting and tax planning for many small businesses and entrepreneurs, both in and outside the music industry.

Joe lives in East Nashville with his wife Jordan and their two loud, tiny dogs, Moxie and Kit. Joe is a member of the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the Association of International CPAs.
